Working hours: Open from 8.30am-12pm and 2.30pm-6.30pm on weekdays, from 8am-3pm during summer.

Note: You can arrange an official guide for you here, but Meknes is not that big and you can easily find your way around it by yourself. Also, a good choice is to have a horse carriage take you around the city (they are stationed near the Bab Mansour gate).

Transportation

Petit taxi

The azure petit taxis in Meknes are most useful when you have to go to medina from ville nouvelle and the other way around. Otherwise, everything is pretty much reachable by foot in Meknes.

Grand taxi

Grand taxis will come in handy when visiting Moulay Idriss and Volubilis. The main station and departure point for the two aforementioned destinations is located on Rue du Congo (in Meknes ville nouvelle).

Warnings and Dangers

Meknes is a peaceful place — there almost no hustlers and faux guides here. You can walk around the ville nouvelle and medina with almost no annoyance at all. As in any other place in Morocco, wandering around at night is not recommended.

You will notice that Meknes is a little bit more conservative than cities like Rabat or Marrakech, for example. Wearing revealing clothes is not recommended here — you will be the target of unwanted attention. On a small sideline note, the moderate islamists have won the local elections here.
