Essaouira: How to Get There
By Plane
The Essaouira airport is located 16 km north of town. There are very few flights from Europe to Essaouira. Some charter flights may be found during high season. You may try Regional Air Lines for flights to Essaouira.
Internal flights (via Royal Air Maroc) from the following Moroccan cities to Essaouira are available: Casablanca, Marrakech.
The nearest airports which have frequent incoming external flights are the Marrakech airport and the Agadir airport.
By Car
The highway that starts in Tangier goes to El Jadida. From there, you have to drive through local roads to reach Essaouira (follow the coastline). A word of warning here: after you pass Safi, there is a segment of the road (about 4 km or more) where there actually isn't any road at all! You will see lots of pieces of asphalt, holes and mud. How did this happen and why there aren't any repairs being made is an enigma. You can get through this even if you don't have a 4x4, just drive slowly.
If you are driving towards Essaouira from Marrakech, you will be able to enjoy the beautiful view from the hill, just before the town itself.
