Getting to Morocco: Your Car Documents and Formalities
For all the automobiles, jeeps, campers and motorcycles you need to have:
- The vehicle registration document with the name of the owner of the vehicle included in it. If you don't happen to be the owner of the vehicle, you should have a written
- The vehicle's green card (carte verte in French) from the car's insurance company. Important: you should make absolutely sure that your vehicle's green card covers Morocco!
- Your international driving permit. Driving permits of most of the European countries are accepted and valid in Morocco. To make sure, make inquries at the Moroccan embassy in your country or at your country's Ministry of foreign affairs.
- If you are travelling to Morocco with a car that has been rented in Europe, you have to possess a written permission from the car rental agency that you are allowed to take the rented car to Morocco and drive there.
- Also, the rented car should have its green card cover Morocco, of course.
Your vehicle is allowed to stay in Morocco for up to 3 months, after which you must take it out of the country. This is normal, because a foreigner can stay in Morocco as a tourist for a maximum of 3 months. For any prolonged stay in Morocco you must get permission from the Moroccan authorities.
